OPERATION LAFIYA DOYLE- NIGERIAN ARMY GIVES UPDATES

 Troops of 27 Task Force Brigade deployed at Buni Gari have arrested another suspected Boko Haram terrorist, Isah Garba aged 20 years while on perimetre patrol on 25th June 2017. Preliminary investigation was initially difficult as he was found to be under influence of heavy dosage of drugs. He has since stabilized and making useful statement. Troops of 29 Task Force Brigade while on patrol on 28th June 2017, along Wajiro-Mallam Kuramti cattle route discovered an IED planted by suspected Boko Haram terrorists. The EOD team safely removed and detonated it. T Troops of 151 Battalion of 21 Brigade on patrol to Mayanti Village were ambushed by suspected elements of Boko Haram terrorists. The troops successfully cleared the ambush by neutralizing some of the terrorists, while a reinforcement was immediately dispatched to mop up the general area. The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Nigerian Army, Lieutenant General TY Buratai, addressed members of Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), a British think-tank and foreign relations experts in London. The Chief of Army Staff spoke to them on the “Current Nigerian Army Operations and the fight against Boko Haram terrorists”. During the presentation, he discussed Nigerian Army’s methods in stopping the Boko Haram terrorists, strategy and tactics being employed against the terrorists, current situation in the north eastern Nigeria and the ongoing clearance and stabilizing operations in the theatre. The presentation attracted other personalities from Transparency International, diplomats from France and the United States, as well as academicians from London School of Economics and participants at Royal College of Defence Studies. SARS SHOOTS ALLEGED CULTIST IN NSUKKA

 The special anti- robbery squad SARS has shot an alleged cultist in a lodge, in Odenigwe that accommodates University of Nigeria, Nsukka students, known as- Praises Lodge. According to an anonymous source, the alleged cultist with his group ganged beat a student who after the incident promised to deal with them. Shortly, SARS officials stormed the lodge, members of his group fled but he didn't. He was shot twice, but surprisingly, he was not hurt due to the fact that he was influenced with "juju" claimed a source. Finally, he was hurt  when he was shot for the third time with a different method of shooting by a SARS official as he fell to the ground in agony. TWO POLICEMEN KILLED BY BOKOHARAM IN DAMBOA

Two police men were killed on their way conveying a corpse of a policewoman to Adamawa state by suspected Boko Haram insurgents in the Damboa area of Borno state, on Tuesday.An officer who witnessed the attack said his colleagues who took cover were yet to be found. He said men from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) deployed to rescue the officers have not been able to rescue all of them. “The bus conveying our female colleague for burial was riddled with bullets, because it was in front. So far, only two people died but we are yet to ascertain whether others were killed or got trapped. SARS was deployed and the truck conveying the officers has been recovered.” According to him six others sustained injuries during an exchange of gunfire with the suspects. “Fifty-seven officers who ran into the bush for their safety and are safe and right here with us in the command. DEATH, REDUCTION OF RANK, AND IMPRISONMENT SENTENCES TO SOLDIERS

The General Court Martial sitting at 7 Division, Nigerian Army in Maiduguri, Borno State has concluded the cases of 5 soldiers bordering on violation of human rights and other operational offences in Operation LAFIYA DOLE. The Deputy Director, Army Public Relation 7 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Kingsley Samuel said that the President of the Court , Brigadier General Olusegun Adeniyi while delivering judgment, announced the court sentence of reduction in rank to Private in 2 count charges for Sergeant Samuel Balanga who is convicted for desertion and miscellaneous offences. A Private Chima Samuel was convicted for aiding and abetting murder of a minor Yakubu Isah in Maiduguri to 15 years imprisonment. INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE ORDERS ARREST OF NORTHERN YOUTHS

 The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, has ordered the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State to investigate and arrest members of the Coalition of Northern Youths for issuing an ultimatum to South Easterners living in the North. The Coalition of Northern Youths on June 6, at a news conference in Kaduna, gave a three-month ultimatum to South Easterners living in the North to leave. It had also ordered Northerners living in the south eastern part of the country to return to the North. The group attributed the ultimatum to the constant agitation by the Igbo ethnic group to have their own independent country. The IG gave the order at a meeting with Commissioners of Police and other high ranking officers on Thursday in Abuja. He warned that no individual or group of persons had the right to ask any individual to leave his or her place of residence in any part of the country. NAF MEDICAL SERVICES BRANCH ORGANIZES PROGRAMME TO BATTLE GLAUCOMA

 The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) recently held a medical awareness lecture and screening programme on glaucoma to further enlighten its personnel in NAF Base Kaduna and interested civilians in neighbouring communities. The programme, which held on 6 June 2017, was organised by the NAF Medical Services Branch. During the awareness programme, participants benefited from free medical screening for Glaucoma and other eye defects as well as free medical consultation and treatment for those identified with eye defects.   While delivering his opening remarks, the NAF Chief of Medical Services, Air Vice Marshal Saleh Shinkafi, stated that the programme was one of the initiatives of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar to raise awareness on Glaucoma, adding that the NAF recognizes Glaucoma as a cause of irreversible blindness.
