NAF MEDICAL SERVICES BRANCH ORGANIZES PROGRAMME TO BATTLE GLAUCOMA
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) recently held a medical awareness lecture and
screening programme on glaucoma to further enlighten its personnel in NAF Base
Kaduna and interested civilians in neighbouring communities. The programme,
which held on 6 June 2017, was organised by the NAF Medical Services Branch.
During the awareness programme, participants benefited from free medical
screening for Glaucoma and other eye defects as well as free medical
consultation and treatment for those identified with eye defects.
While
delivering his opening remarks, the NAF Chief of Medical Services, Air Vice
Marshal Saleh Shinkafi, stated that the programme was one of the initiatives of
the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar to raise
awareness on Glaucoma, adding that the NAF recognizes Glaucoma as a cause of
irreversible blindness. He acknowledged the efforts of the CAS in placing
priority on healthcare delivery to NAF personnel and their neighbouring
communities across NAF bases all over the country. Speaking at the programme,
the CAS, who was represented by Air Commodore Ado Inuwa, expressed the
importance of good eyesight toan individual, particularly military personnel,
as it allows for maximum productivity. He equally expressed his joy at the
modern equipment for the early detection of glaucoma that had been newly
installed in various NAF hospitals across the country.
The NAF
is committed to making timely healthcare delivery available to all its
personnel and neighbouring civilians all over the country in support of the
Federal Government's agenda on healthcare delivery for all Nigerians.
