DEATH, REDUCTION OF RANK, AND IMPRISONMENT SENTENCES TO SOLDIERS

The General Court Martial sitting at 7 Division, Nigerian Army in Maiduguri, Borno State has concluded the cases of 5 soldiers bordering on violation of human rights and other operational offences in Operation LAFIYA DOLE.

The Deputy Director, Army Public Relation 7 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Kingsley Samuel said that the President of the Court , Brigadier General Olusegun Adeniyi while delivering judgment, announced the court sentence of reduction in rank to Private in 2 count charges for Sergeant Samuel Balanga who is convicted for desertion and miscellaneous offences.

A Private Chima Samuel was convicted for aiding and abetting murder of a minor Yakubu Isah in Maiduguri to 15 years imprisonment. Lance Corporal Hilary Joel was convicted for murder of a suspected Boko Haram terrorist in Damboa was sentenced to death.


 Corporal Aliu Audu was charged for assault and was reduced to the rank of Private, Trooper Sunday Ogwuche was convicted for stealing and unlawful possession of 641 rounds of 7.62mm Special and was sentenced to 7 years imprisonment.

According to the statement, the representative of the National Human Rights Commission, Barrister Jumai Usman Mshelia commended the Nigerian Army for the transparency in the trial of the a accused soldier.

 Barrister Mshelia however expressed delight on the judgment said that the Nigerian Army had proved that it is a discipline organisation where airing personnel are tried for wrong doing.

On the day of my interview I received a stroke from the then P.A to the Commandant; then Corporal Okeke (my respect and love to you sir); this soldier “no dey send oh, he dey flog both pikin and mama then for the sake of discipline”. It didn’t end there, I was even flogged a week after resumption for not having a white teeth (lol).

LOL...., it have been hilarious all through.It been such a wonderful day for the Old students association of marist comprehensive academy uturu class 2003. Sure! they had fun in the dinner night held in the Piccadilly suites hall, Lekki,VI, Lagos. 20 years! I must confess, it really been long since this class had been together, having fun this way. It had really been emotional and humorous thanks to the MC-Soyibibo (Kabal) "The mischievous but Intelligent OSAMCA". however, dignitaries like their seniors and principal- Christopher  Onwuasanya were invited to the occasion. The principal expressed his joy and satisfaction in the class during his speech.
